Hi, it’s Claire.
I’ve spent the last 10 years learning how to be happier.
After a Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and working as a School Social Worker, I had a pretty good idea.
But knowing how to be happier and actually being happier are two very different things.
After I had my wonderful, brilliant daughter in 2023, I was really struggling. And the fact that I felt so anxious all the time turned into some massive guilt — my daughter is the best thing to ever happen to me, so why am I still so stressed out?!
It took me a long time to realize what was going on: I was trying to be perfect.
No wonder I failed.
In that postpartum stage, I was bombarded with advice, tips, tricks, and the “best” way to parent. I felt like these people must know what they’re doing, because they have degrees and followers, so I tried to listen and do what they suggested.
But I never believed in what I was doing. And that was the issue.
I was trying to be the type of parent these people already were instead of trying to be the parent I wanted to be.
So I focused on finding out what matters to me as a parent. What is my definition of a good parent? How can I be that, instead of trying to be perfect?
A Parent Like You is the culmination of my research and experience figuring that out. And I’m here to keep no secrets and share everything I’ve learned.
Because you deserve to be happy. And you can do it a lot faster than 10 years.
